Flights Of Fancy
Here’s to the flight simulator, which was patented exactly ninety years ago by Edwin Link. He started his career in the family business, building player-pianos, and believed he could reduce the dangers of learning to fly with his new invention. But when he took his flight-sim designs to the US Army Air Force, they laughed him off the airfield. Old Edwin had the last laugh though, and by the end of World War Two his automated Link Trainer had become responsible for training nearly every pilot on the Allied side, and was a deciding factor in winning the war. A few years later, United Air Lines invested in a revolutionary flight simulator using sound, visuals and movement. It set the standards for all modern flight sims, and cost a whopping three million dollars! But today’s would-be pilots don’t need to spend a fortune, in fact they can use state-of-the-art PCs to achieve incredible flight sims, and the most celebrated of these is the award-winning Chillblast range.
Dedicated to flight simulation, the Chillblast Helisimmer, Hurricane, Superfortress and Stratus models are augmented by ultra-realistic peripherals, including Virtual Fly rudder pedals, throttles and yokes, to create the ultimate virtual experience. The Stratus is the most affordable system in the Chillblast range, and it’s designed in conjunction with YouTube legend Matt Davies - the author of some of the most stunning flight simulation videos and guides on the internet. This means enthusiasts who want their flying fortunes to look as fabulous as Matt's can now harness the best possible experience for themselves, thanks to Chillblast. We like to think that Edwin Link would be proud of our achievements in the field he pioneered at New Year all those years ago. Happy anniversary!
