Alone in the Dark is the upcoming “reimagination” of the popular previous title of the same name originally released in 1992, and is set to be released on 20th March 2024.
Developed by Pieces Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, the game is a single-player, narrative-driven psychological horror that challenges players to uncover the mystery of Derceto Manor.
On their journey, players will be faced with unspeakable horrors in a “skillfully-woven narrative of Southern Gothic elegance and eldritch madness that pays homage to its legendary origins while taking the next step forward in survival horror storytelling.”
As with any modern game release, knowing the system requirements necessary to run the game at optimal settings is vital for having an enjoyable gameplay experience. In this article, we’ll explore the PC specs required to run Alone in the Dark, as well as provide recommendations for those looking to upgrade their current setup.
So, read on to discover what hardware you will need to immerse yourself in this dark mysterious world.
To get Alone in the Dark up and running at 1080p resolution, with most settings likely on low but hitting a decent 30 FPS, THQ Nordic says you don't need a particularly powerful PC.
These specs are very typical of a lot of modern releases. Both the CPU and GPU options are a good few generations old now so most gaming PCs made within the last 6-8 years should be able to handle getting the game up and running.
One area your system may be lacking, however, is the storage space required to install the game. Even though the game isn’t nearly as big as some other modern titles, it’ll always benefit from being installed on a fast drive. With this in mind, consider upgrading your system with an SSD for faster load times, even if it's a smaller one.
If your PC just meets these specifications, however, you will need to be content with the lowest settings. You’ll only be able to play at around 1080p at 30 FPS with pretty much all the settings on low, which is fine if you’re playing on a small monitor, but if you’re trying to play on a larger monitor or even a TV, it’s not going to look great.

A PC that we'd recommend at this level would be the Ignition Intel Core i3 GTX 1650 Gaming PC.
As the minimum specs listed are showing their age now, anything from the last 5 years will surpass it and so that’s the case with this PC.
It houses newer components in the form of the Nvidia RTX 1650 GPU and the Intel i3 12100. Both parts are great entry-level options and offer excellent value for money for those looking for a more budget system that will still allow for moderate gaming.
It also comes stocked with double the minimum requirement for RAM at 16GB, plus a huge 1TB SSD to store the game on giving you more than enough space for a few others too.
According to THQ Nordic, systems that fall within these recommended specifications will likely provide a solid Alone in the Dark gameplay experience at 1080p, increasing framerates to a smooth 60FPS and graphical settings closer to ‘high’.
These recommended specs aren’t too much of a jump from the minimum requirements either, with some of the suggested components being roughly 5 years old. Although the upgrade in GPU does bring new features such as DLSS technology and the option for ray tracing via the Nvidia RTX graphics card.
However, they are a couple of generations old now and can be hard to get your hands on, so will likely not be the best option for value for money and you should instead look to newer parts.

A PC that we'd recommend at this level would be the Evolution AMD Ryzen 5 RX 7600 Gaming PC.
Just as with our PC suggestion for the minimum specs, this PC features much more recent parts, upgrading the CPU to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 and the GPU to an AMD RX 7600. The combination of these newer parts means more future-proofing alongside a top-tier 1080p experience.
THQ Nordic may not have officially stated whether or not Alone in the Dark will support AMD’s FSR technology at launch, but with it implementing Nvidia’s DLSS with this game, we can likely assume that the AMD alternative will be implemented too. So don’t worry about missing out if you choose a system that features an AMD GPU.
THQ Nordic hasn’t released official high-resolution specs, but to enjoy a game like Alone in the Dark at 1440p and 4K, all while having graphical settings on high, these are the specs we think your system will need to hit at the very minimum.
Like the other requirement lists, these components are also not of the most current generation. So, to hit these specs without spending money on out-of-date parts, consider a system like the Chilblast Evolution Intel Core i5 RTX 4070 Gaming PC.
This Chillblast PC features the Intel Core i5 14500 processor, which offers excellent gaming performance and multitasking capabilities. Paired with the Nvidia RTX 4070, you can expect smooth gameplay at 4K at high settings in most games.
Plus, with full support for DLSS, it can drive up frame rates in supported games even more, and it even has some impressive ray-tracing support in compatible games
It even comes with a 1TB SSD which is ample room for your game library, plus a solid 16GB of high-speed memory.

Alone in the Dark’s various system requirements provide options for all budgets. While meeting the minimum requirements will allow you to play the game smoothly, upgrading to a more powerful Chillblast PC will enhance your gaming experience, especially if you aim to play at higher resolutions and settings.
