Battlefield 2042 hasn’t had the smoothest of times since its release back in November 2021. But, with various updates, patches and new season releases, it’s slowly climbing its way back into players’ hearts.
If you steered clear of the game during its initial release but find yourself wanting to try it now, you may be asking yourself: can my PC run Battlefield 2042?
If upon cross-referencing your build to the specifications in the tables below you find that they fall short, you may need to think about either upgrading individual components, or simply upgrading to a new PC entirely. Both of these options can be fulfilled by us here at Chillblast, and we even have a dedicated list of Battlefield 2042 PCs that we think will provide a top-notch experience, no matter your budget.
So, let’s take a look at the minimum and recommended PC specs you should aim for in order to play Battlefield 2042.
Battlefield 2042 Minimum PC Specs
Minimum Specs | |
Operating System | 64-bit Windows 10 |
Processor (Intel) | Core i5 6600K |
Processor (AMD) | AMD FX-8350 |
Memory | 8GB |
GPU (Nvidia) | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti |
GPU (AMD) | AMD Radeon RX 560 |
DirectX | 12 |
Storage | 100GB |
Systems that fall within these specifications will likely provide a relatively decent 1080p gaming experience, hitting an average of 40 frames per second, but will be limited to graphical settings on low.
This is fine if you don’t care too much about visuals or about rivalling the faster and more competitive frame rates of the enemy teams. But for an all-around more enjoyable experience, you’re better off sticking with the recommended specs and above.
Both the CPU and GPU are multiple generations old now which suggests that just about any PC from the past 5 years will get this game up and running. However, you will have to sacrifice newer features such as ray tracing and DLSS capabilities when using a GTX 10 series graphics card.
What do we suggest
A PC that we’d recommend at this level would be the Chillblast Fusion Reaver Gaming PC.
However, as the minimum specs suggest rather old components, this PC does exceed them by a fair amount. But, because of this, the Reaver provides more future-proofing and a smoother 1080p Battlefield 2042 experience, all for under £1000.
Battlefield 2042 Recommended PC Specs
Recommended Specs | |
Operating System | 64-bit Windows 10 |
Processor (Intel) | Core i7 4790 |
Processor (AMD) | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
Memory | 16GB |
GPU (Nvidia) | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 |
GPU (AMD) | AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT |
DirectX | 12 |
Storage | 100GB |
Systems that fall within these specifications will likely provide an excellent gameplay experience at both 1080p and 1440p, keeping framerates high whilst maintaining visual integrity.
However, some players’ tests have revealed that the AMD 6600XT GPU actually performs slightly better than the Nvidia 3060 at 1080p and 1440p when settings are dialled all the way up to ultra. So this may sway your GPU purchasing decision if you are looking to build a custom PC to play Battlefield 2042.
What do we suggest
A PC we recommend at this level is the Chillblast Akula Gaming PC.
It houses an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU which, even though has the same number of cores and threads as the suggested Ryzen 7 2700X, actually performs better. This is due to it being a much more recent CPU in AMD’s lineup and as such, is fitted with their ever-evolving technology.
The Akula also comes with an Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti which is a slight step up from the base 3060 suggested. This, paired with the recent AMD CPU makes a potent combination for those looking for a PC with great performance today and into the future.
It even comes stacked with a massive 1TB of super-fast SSD storage which means that a large game like this can be stored alongside the OS and multiple other games and files.
Battlefield 2042 4K PC Specs
There are no official 4K specs released from EA DICE for Battlefield 2042, but going by the recommended specs and what’s needed to play similar games at 4K, it’s probably a good idea to stick with the typical 4K GPU powerhouse: the Nvidia RTX 3080.
To avoid any bottle-necking, it should be paired with a CPU from at least the last 2 generations (Intel’s 10th gen and AMD’s 3000 series). Although you’re more likely to get better performance and value for money in the long run when pairing it with a latest generation CPU.
What do we suggest
A PC that we think will provide the best 4K Battlefield 2042 experience whilst also being the best value for money is the Chillblast Fusion Torrent Mini.
As suggested, it houses the excellent 4K graphics card – the RTX 3080 – alongside a 12th generation Intel CPU (the i7-12700K). Not only this, but it also contains a massive 32GB of super-fast RAM plus a whopping 1TB of SSD storage, drastically reducing load times.
To make things even better, all of this is housed inside the awesomely tiny Fractal Torrent Nano case, which is roughly half the size of a standard PC. It’s not every day that you find a 4K gaming beast inside such a small package.
What PC Do You Need?
What PC you need for Battlefield 2042 all depends on the type of gameplay experience you desire. If you want to play the game at 1440p on a high refresh-rate monitor with settings set to high (or even ultra), then you’ll need to aim for a top-tier system.
However, if you don’t care as much for super realistic graphics and instead want to focus more on achieving the highest framerates possible, then a slightly lower-tier PC would suit your needs.
Fortunately, both the minimum and recommended PC specs currently released by EA aren’t too taxing. They make use of last-generation components which means that most systems built with these specs in mind won’t be too heavy on the wallet.
