What to expect from Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action RPG in a dystopian future in which corporations dominate society after a global economic and political collapse. Set in Night City, a neon megalopolis rife with crime, players take on the role of the cybernetically enhanced mercenary, V, as they fight to survive in the City of Dreams. Customise your V and develop your build to suit your playstyle; whether it's hiding in the shadows as a netrunner or diving headfirst into combat with a sandevistan and a gun, V's fate is for you to decide.

Built as a story-driven open-world RPG, Cyberpunk features a dense, highly detailed city simulation set within a futuristic, dystopian world. Advanced graphics and ray-tracing technology bring its neon-lit environments to life, while fast-paced, cyberware-focused builds emphasise speed, fluid movement, and rapid combat encounters. To keep up with the game’s scale and intensity, especially during high-velocity gameplay, a high-performing GPU and CPU are essential for quick loading and maintaining immersion.

Chasing the ultimate Cyberpunk experience

If you’re building a rig and want Cyberpunk 2077 to run like a preem piece of chrome—packed streets, neon popping, and ray tracing without your system flatlining—these are the components that matter when Night City starts pushing your hardware to the edge.

    Graphics Card

Although the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 is the recommended minimum for ray tracing (which is a must for Cyberpunk 2077), let's not forget the game was initially released in 2020. If you want to see Night City in all its vibrant, neon glory, we recommend speccing up to a 5060 at the very least for peak performance and to allow you to enjoy the game at its best.

That being said, if you want to be a true Night City Legend and take Cyberpunk to its full potential, the RTX 5080 is a graphical powerhouse, optimised to run at 4K. With DLSS4 and full ray tracing, it breathes a whole new life into the game and is more than capable of running newer games as well!

    Processor

Cyberpunk can be played in many ways, from slash-and-dash close-range fights to distance netrunning without even stepping into the building, but to do that, you need a PC that can keep up. This is particularly true when considering the open-world aspect of the game. Night City is a busy place with a whole city of NPCs and missions to manage, all while juggling the physics-breaking technology that players can obtain.

At minimum you need an Intel Core i7 or Ryzen 5 CPU for your PC to run the game. Both offer great performance, but if you want to enjoy the game to the fullest with high or ultra settings, choom, you need to upgrade your Chrome and get a PC with a Ryzen 7 CPU or higher.

    Memory

It's no secret that Cyberpunk was glitchy and laggy on launch but moved past that through commitment and investment into the game. The same logic can be applied to purchasing a higher amount of RAM, with 32 to 64 GB being ideal. Current and next-gen games require a significant amount of memory to run smoothly, and Cyberpunk is no different, requiring a minimum of 12 GB of RAM, not accounting for using mods or playing on high and ultra settings.

If you want to keep your game lag-free and experience optimal gameplay, 32 GB or higher with the all-important DDR5 should be the standard because this game deserves to have every detail seen in pristine, latency-free clarity.

    Storage

With a hugely detailed open world, a powerful SSD makes all the difference in your gameplay experience. On a traditional HDD (hard disc drive), you're likely to be left waiting for loading screens while fast-travelling around Night City or even just loading up the game. In addition, Cyberpunk streams assets (textures, NPCs, etc.) in real time as you play. Slow drives are likely to struggle to load data fast enough, causing texture issues and lag.

A fast SSD with at least 1–2 TB of storage is preferable if you want a seamless gaming experience, and better yet, it gives you ample space for other demanding games!

1080p vs 4K Visuals

1080p and 4K refer to how many pixels make up an image. 1080p displays 1920×1080 pixels and is generally easier for most computers to run, making it the best choice if you're focusing on performance and high frame rates over graphical quality. 4K, on the otherhand, displays 3840×2160 pixels—four times as many as 1080p—resulting in much sharper detail and clearer text, particularly on larger screens. However, 4K requires much more powerful hardware to run well.

For Cyberpunk 2077, both resolutions are excellent, but to fully experience Night City's stunning neon lights, seamless gameplay, and action-packed gunfights, aiming for a PC with a GPU that can handle 1440p to 4K, ideally with ray tracing, is the way to go. The difference might seem subtle, but it's a real game changer.
