Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed Specs - What You Need To Run It [PC]

The Destroy All Humans franchise was thought to have died off with its original creator and publisher, Pandemic Studios and THQ, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed launched in August this year to much acclaim, and for those looking for a swinging-60s probing adventure, or anyone looking to replay this iconic 2006 release, it’s the perfect game for the job.

You don’t even need a powerful PC to run it, as even on higher settings this game isn’t even close to demanding.

Still, as with most PC games, if you’re looking to crank up the settings to their maximum and play at 4K with high frame rates, you won’t be able to get away with a machine with a decade-old GPU. So let’s take a look at Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed, and see just what you need to run it (and how you can build a PC to make the most of it).

Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed Minimum Requirements

  • CPU: AMD Kaveri A10-7850K or Intel Pentium DualCore G3220
  • Memory: 8GB of RAM
  • Graphics: AMD/Nvidia graphics card, with at least 4GB of dedicated VRAM (and at least DirectX 11.0 and Shader Model 5.1 support)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 50GB

It’s rare to come across modern games (even remasters) that place such light demands on a gaming PC to get them running. Here the developers at Black Forest Games and THQ Nordic don’t even specify a graphics card: just anything with at least 4GB of RAM and DirectX 11 support will do.

That isn’t quite as broad sweeping as it might appear, though, as only graphics cards from the Nvidia GTX 900 series and later shipped with 4GB VRAM. However, it does open the door for really low-end GPUs like the GTX 1630, or AMD RX 560 to play this game.

As for CPUs, these models are close to a decade old, with only a handful of cores between them and low clock speeds. You’ll find better processors in the cheap desktop you bought to do school work on five years ago.

The 8GB of RAM and 50GB of any type of storage (although you really should still use an SSD if you can) are easy to hit too, and if you can’t, they’re the kind of thing you can upgrade to for just a few pounds.

All in all, these kinds of specs mean that any gaming PC bought or built in the past five years should have no trouble running Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed. And even if you’re using a PC without a dedicated GPU, you could slot in just about any card from the past few years and have no trouble running this game at 1080p with the settings on low, for between 30 and 60 FPS.

Meeting The Minimum On A Modern PC

If you don’t have a gaming PC that can meet or exceed the above specifications, you’re going to find it next to impossible to buy a PC with that kind of hardware. You’ll find some on auction sites, no doubt, but they will be old and with little guarantee of a long working life. They also won’t be up to playing much else.

Building a new PC would make a lot more sense, especially now that graphics card and memory prices have fallen back to realistic levels.

The best budget gaming CPU in 2022 is the Intel Core i3-12100F. It sports four cores, supports up to eight simultaneous threads, and has a high 4.3GHz clock speed. It is complete overkill for playing Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed, but it is the most affordable, modern gaming CPU and will give you plenty of scope for playing more demanding games at higher settings.

For the graphics card, you can go with whatever you can afford, as any modern GPU will be more than enough for getting this game running at 1080p with middle-of-the-road settings. At the very affordable end, the AMD RX 6400 will have everything you need, but you could pay a bit more for the Nvidia GTX 1650 or 1650 Super, if you prefer.

As for memory and storage, just grab 8GB of whatever the cheapest memory you can find is, and ensure you have a small SSD to install the game on. It’ll load far faster for it, and 250GB SSDs are incredibly cheap.

Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed Recommended Requirements

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i7 6700K

Memory: 16GB of RAM

Graphics: AMD/Nvidia dedicated graphics card, with at least 4GB of dedicated VRAM and with at least DirectX 12.0 and Shader Model 6.0 support

DirectX: Version 12

Storage: 50GB

The recommended specifications will get Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed running at 1080p, 60 FPS with all settings at maximum, so it’s perhaps no surprise that these kinds of settings are much more demanding. They’re still not going to mandate a cutting-edge gaming PC, but there’s hardware here that is still capable in other games, so you won’t be able to play at these settings with just anything.

The CPUs were mid-range options a few years ago, and the 6700K in particular was a strong performer when it debuted, but that was back in 2015. The graphics cards are unspecified, again, but this time around demand DirectX 12 and Shader Model 6. In reality, this means almost any GPU from the Nvidia 10-series onwards, so you still don’t need a high-end graphics card – just one that’s relatively modern.

The demand for 16GB of RAM is more stringent, but with RAM prices continuing to fall in recent months (particularly for DDR4, which is now extremely affordable), that’s still easy to meet, and even easier to upgrade to if you’re stuck on 8GB for now.

Most gaming PCs made in the past few years will be able to hit these kinds of specs, and very likely exceed them, but it’s also possible that if your PC is just slightly outdated, you can add a new CPU or GPU and be able to enjoy Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed at very respectable settings.

Meeting The Recommended Requirements With A Modern PC

As with the minimum specifications, you’re going to have a hard time finding any of the recommended hardware in new condition. Even if you do, they’ll likely be overpriced, and the second-hand market is rife with GPU mining rigs, and old hardware that gives you no guarantee of longevity.

If you build a new PC instead, you can be sure that you’re going to exceed these specifications, delivering greater detail and frame rates, whilst also giving you peace of mind with extensive warranties and future-proof hardware.

The Intel Core i3-12100F is still a great gaming CPU at this kind of level, but you could opt for the Core i5-12400F if you want more cores and greater multi-threading performance for more demanding games, or doing some video editing or other intensive task when you’re not gaming. The AMD Ryzen 5 5500 and 5600 are great options, too.

For graphics card options, you’ll want something more capable like an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super, or an AMD RX 6600. These will give you excellent 1080p gaming performance in about any game, but they’ll be more than enough to make this one look stellar. The 6600 in particular should be enough to push the resolution to 1440p if you’re willing to tweak the settings to still play at high frame rates.

If you find that you can’t quite hit the FPS you want, though,  Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed also supports deep learning super sampling (DLSS) and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) for dynamic upscaling. Both deliver a significant performance boost when enabled, so use whichever you can if you want to push your frame rates higher.

Playing Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed In 4K

There are no official specifications for running Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed at 4K resolution, so we’re left to make educated guesses about what you need to run this game at its most beautiful. A capable processor and graphics card is a must, but since you can take advantage of upscaling technologies to plug any gaps in your system’s performance, and it’s a remaster of an older game, you should be able to play this at 4K without the most high-end of gaming PCs.

For the CPU, targeting a capable mid-range processor is your best bet if you’re looking to make the most of your money. The Intel Core i5-12600K is a killer gaming CPU and isn’t far off the much more expensive models. Alternatively, if you don’t mind paying the higher costs for motherboards and DDR5, AMD’s new Ryzen 7600X is a very fast chip in its own right, and one of the best mid-range gaming CPUs available today.

For graphics, you need something hefty, but don’t need to go quite to the highest of the high-end. The Nvidia RTX 3070 is a great pick for testing the waters with 4K resolution, as though it’s not really designed for it, it’s powerful enough to play most games at 4K if you don’t mind lowering some of the settings. It shouldn’t have any trouble in this game, though, since it’s not too demanding.

Alternatively, AMD’s graphics cards are a bit cheaper at the moment, and with no ray tracing to worry about, they’re a great option for a game like this. The RX 6700 XT should compete very favourably with the 3070 and deliver decent 4K performance in a game like this.

Higher Frame Rates At 4K

If you want to hit even higher frame rates in this game, you’re going to need to pay for the privilege. Up until this point in the article, we’ve been focusing on components that deliver the best value for money. If you want to really push it, though, you’ll need to go outside of those bounds and buy the components that are simply the fastest.

The RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT are stellar 4K graphics cards that will show a big increase in performance over the 3070 and 6700 XT; perfect for improving your 4K gaming experience in Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed. You could upgrade the processor too, as this game does hit a CPU bottleneck around 100 FPS with some of the most powerful GPUs, even at 4K. But it’s only necessary if you’re chasing the most impressive gameplay performance; it isn’t going to make a massive difference to your actual experience playing the game.

The same goes for the most high-end GPUs, the RTX 3080 Ti, the RX 6950 XT, or even the next-generation RTX 4080 and 4090 cards from Nvidia. These GPUs are 4K graphics cards, but they’re designed for much more demanding games than this. Build a PC around them if you’re planning on playing other games at high settings, but if you’re just looking to play Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed and similarly lightweight games, you can save a lot of money by going with a system that’s much more modest.

Conclusion

Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed isn’t a demanding game, but outside of the minimums, you do need at least a mid-tier gaming PC to make it look good and play smoothly. With new hardware showing up from most of the major manufacturers at this time, it’s a great opportunity to upgrade, or build a new gaming PC to play games like Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed.
